How Does the Game Work? (Shillong Teer List Daily)
Played six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, Shillong Teer’s format is straightforward. Its immense popularity in Meghalaya is evident in the over 5,000 teer counters across the state.
The game unfolds in two rounds. In the first round, 50 archers each shoot 30 arrows, followed by a second round where the same 50 archers shoot 20 arrows each. The results for the first round are announced at 4:00 p.m., and the second round results are declared at 5:00 p.m. It’s worth noting that these timings may shift with the changing seasons of summer and winter.

A popular theory suggests that during the colonial period, Shillong served as the capital of Assam, and the British were particularly fond of Meghalaya’s cool climate—it offered a refreshing escape from the heat of the plains.
During this time, the British came across a traditional competitive sport involving archery. Impressed by the game, they are believed to have introduced a lottery and betting system around these archery practices.
How Shillong Hit Number Legalized?
Under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act of 1982, the State Government officially brought the traditional archery-based game under regulation. At the time, Captain Williamson A. Sangma, then Chief Minister of Meghalaya, held the political authority to support and enact the law.
With the backing of the state legislative body, the law was passed to legalize the game, distinguishing it as a form of regulated betting rather than gambling.
The Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax (Amendment) Act, 1982 now governs all legal aspects of the Teer betting game, ensuring its operations remain within the bounds of state law.
